About This Item

The right gauges for cutting and shaping string slots on acoustic guitars. Six files in each set.

Our tempered edge-cut nut files produce round-bottom slots for nuts and saddles. Ensure your strings seat properly in the nut without buzzing!

Each chrome-alloy steel file has twin 4" cutting edges. Among our most popular tools, these professional files help you get the job done quickly and correctly.

Now this is a set of nut files!

Ok, wrote a mediocre review for the .010 file individually but this set is awesome! Teeth are durable, files are rigid, and easy to clean. May buy a couple more individual files but this set makes nut filing super easy!I might even sew a roll for all the available sizes to keep them organized. No worrying if I have the right size turned up (as on dual sided files). This is the best way for me to work. Cuts nicely on both bone and TUSQ style nuts. Although I notice it says acoustic guitar... I bought the electric guitar small set. Which is why I may buy more files to accommodate larger string diameters.

The files are of good material and shave very fast, use caution when filing. My repair went very well.

Have not used these yet but will need them when I change my nut.

I like to do my own work on my guitars because then I know exactly what has been done. These will come in handy when I change my nuts. They appear to be of high quality.

Great set of files! Double edged, and very sharp. They work flawlessly. Wish I had ordered these years ago instead of struggling with needle files.

Finally got the right tools for the job.

After struggling for years trying to adjust my guitar nuts, I bought these nut files -- what a pleasure! Why did I wait to get them? I'm not a pro luthier, but being able to do small adjustments is great.
Thank you Stew-Mac.

An easy to use tool

They make slotting a nut a whole lot simpler when used in conjunction with a nut slotting gauge. A far cry from needle files used in the past and more accurate.

Excellent files to produce excellent work. A luthier is as good as his tools.

Should Have Bought Sooner

These nut files work well. I've used the various DIY methods in the past and made them work, but these files make the job much easier and give better results. I only work on my own guitars, so I had difficulty justifying the expense for only occasional use, but now I realize they are well worth it. I bought the #0884 set for Light/Medium Strings (0.013", 0.016", 0.024", 0.032", 0.042", and 0.056"). Those sizes seem to work fine for lighter strings, too, at least down to .010-.046 sets.

Best thing I ever did for my guitar

After owning a few guitars and never having them play great even after "pro setups" I bit the bullet and bought these after reading one of Dan Erlewine's book.

I used the simple method of stacking feeler gauges against the nut after measuring the height of the frets. My guitar had a micarta nut, these went through it very easily. Everything came out great and the guitar was transformed and plays fantastically now.

I know there is lots of complaining about the price of these but they seem like a bargain compared to trying to find someone else to do the work for you who will do what you want and do it right.

These things are amazing

Forget the needle files and other expedients. These things are great. If the material is at all soft they cut so fast it's scary., and they make a slot of a precise width, easily. They are expensive (at least to my budget they are) bu I'm glad I made the investment. Getting the nut correct has a major effect on how an instrument sounds and plays. These are a major help in getting the nut right.
